The Crawford County Fair Livestock Committee has a case of the missing hares, or rather the money from the hares.
During the Crawford County Fair Board meeting Wednesday night, Livestock Committee President Jeff Schiefer approached the board with this issue as the person who agreed to process the rabbits from the fair has not provided the processed creatures or the money from them which totals to a little over $600. After keeping contact with the processor for a few weeks after the fair, that contact diminished with unreturned phone calls.
The Fair Boad advised Schiefer to contact Crawford County Prosecuting Attorney Matthew Crall to attempt to make contact with the processor in question.
The Fair Board also approved officers for 2017 along with swearing in new and returning members to the board.
Blaine Rowlinson was re-elected the Fair Board president, Roger Auck retained the vice president position, Rebecca Starner remained secretary and Tom Laughbaum kept the treasurer position.
The fair board approved to keep the salaries for Secretary and Treasurer the same through 2017.
The board received a paper from the city giving them information on what they will receive when the city’s proposed water retention pond is installed in the south parking lot. According to the paper, the Fair Board will receive a 36-percent discount fee of the storm water rates. The city will be responsible for the upkeep of the hill surrounding the pond, grindings would be laid down for the parking area, and a paved access drive would be added to the grounds.
Rowlinson noted that the board would contact the county commissioners to meet with them prior to signing the paper from the city.
The Livestock Committee presented a few changes to exhibiting animals for the 2017 fair. Of those changes beef exhibitors will no longer be doing a carlot class, and poultry will add pullets to their respective classes of animals shown.
Fair Board member Jamie Sherk made a motion that the three appointed executive committee members be voted on by the Fair Board and given a limit to three consecutive years. The motion was approved by a 14 to 8 vote.
The Fair board approved alcohol sales, pending licensing, at February’s gun raffle.
