Crawford County Fair Board members made their choice for Fair Supporter of the Year at Wednesday night’s monthly meeting. After mulling options the Fair Board selected retiring 4-H advisor Brenda Young as their choice for Fair Supporter of the Year.
Young thanked the Fair Board for all the support that they have given to the 4-H organization, as well as the support that they have given her personally. During her 4-H report Young asked if the Fair Board would agree to hang some 4-H signs around the fairgrounds. The Fair Board obliged by voting to hang three signs around the premises.
During Wednesday’s meeting the Swine Committee, Beef Committee, Alpaca Committee, Goat Committee, and General Rules Committee submitted rule changes to be voted on during November’s meeting.
Swine Committee rule changes deal with the limit of carlot hogs allowed for show. The Swine Committee proposed a rule change that under and over animals would not be allowed in the final sale.
Submitted alpaca rule changes ask to move the show to the first Sunday of the fair at noon so as not to hold up the North Central Angus show.
Beef rule changes mainly deal with updating dates to reflect this year’s fair. The Beef Committee also submitted the rule that the beef feeder would need to get a health paper from the vet prior to registration.
Proposed goat rule changes strikes out the rule of horn spurs being no longer than half an inch, no Nigerian dwarf goats, and an extra day for the presenters to clean out their pens.
Proposed general rule changes call for adding the exception that if a death occurs of an animal during fair week prior to showing then the presenter can show another animal in the barn. Another proposed general rule change calls for the addition of alpacas to the animals list in the fair book.
During Treasurer Tom Laughbaum’s report he noted that the fair office had a break-in on Oct. 22 at 1:39 a.m. Laughbaum noted that only $125 was taken from the storage start-up cash. Laughbaum also noted that two of the windows were broken from the inside. The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office is currently handling the questioning and investigation.
The Fair Board approved to replace a heat exchanger in the Youth Building. The estimate for the heat exchanger is $3,550.
Also approved was entering a membership with the Bucyrus Visitors Bureau for $125 off of a $250 membership, as well as use of the fair grounds for the Bratwurst Bike Ride in exchange for the membership.
The Fair Board voted against allowing use of the fair office for use by the Horse Council for winter meetings.
Laughbaum also reported that Wambold’s Amazing Animals agreed to do three shows on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday of the fair week for the cost of $9,000.
The next Crawford County Fair Board Meeting will take place at 7 p.m. on Nov. 26.
