BUCYRUS—Wayne Barrows, 83, appeared in Crawford County Common Pleas Court on Wednesday after he violated parole by being charged in Florida.

Barrows underlying charges was a second-degree sexual offense. Barrows was reluctant to agree to the conclusion of extradition and told the court,” I will soon be 84 years old. If I go to Florida, I’ll never make it back alive.” Barrows said.

Crawford County Common Pleas Court Judge Sean Leuthold explained that Barrows could fight the extradition, and the Governor of Florida would have to sign a special order to transport him back. After checking to confer with his attorney, Barrows made one additional plea to Judge Leuthold if he could cooperate with Florida and transfer the charges here and settle all charges in Crawford County.

“I cannot do that as the crimes were allegedly committed in Florida, and they want you back there,” Leuthold said.

Barrows decided to waive his right to extradition. Florida has ten business days to pick Barrows up from the Crawford County Jail. If they do not pick him up within the legal time frame, Judge Leuthold told Barrows he would bring him back to court and hold a bond hearing.

In other court news, Jason Surgener, 39, of Bucyrus, was charged with one count of domestic violence, a felony of the fourth degree punishable with up to 18 months in prison.

According to the prosecution, Surgener was indicted by the April grand jury. According to allegations, he became violent with the victim and busted out car windows, and pushed her against the wall. Surgener was out on a $25,000 bond, but the bonding agency revoked the bond for noncompliance by Surgener.

Judge Leuthold continued the bond of $25,000.00 and told Surgener he would have to find another bonding agent to post the bond.

Jacob Aller, 22, of Delaware, has his personal recognizance bond revoked after he left his court-ordered treatment program and then overdosed on a combination of drugs, including fentanyl. According to Probation Officer, Eric Bohach Aller tested positive just before his court appearance for fentanyl, Buphrenorine, and THC.

Due to the violations resulting in an overdose, concerns for his mental and physical safety, and because fentanyl is so deadly, Leuthold set his bond at $50,000.00.

Jeremy Lawson, 41, of Mansfield, pleaded guilty to one count of possession of drugs, a felony of the fifth degree punishable with up to 12 months in prison.

In an agreed plea negotiation, Judge Leuthold sentenced Lawson to 90 days in prison, and when he is released, he will continue on community control.

Dustin Harper, 27, of Bucyrus, pleaded guilty to one count of possession of drugs, a felony of the fifth degree punishable with up to 12 months in prison. In a negotiated plea agreement, Leuthold sentenced Harper to a flat eight months in prison. He will forfeit all drug-related property, including any cell phones related to the crime. He will receive 46 days of jail time credit.
