‘Extra Extra Large’ awarded Overall Grand Champion Jackpot hog

Individuals gathered their finest pigs Monday morning to compete in the Jackpot Show, otherwise known as an open hog show. With six separate classes of pigs being paraded around the arena, Judge Dan Forebost had many options to chose from.

After a winner was chosen for each class, the Overall Grand Champion and Overall Reserve Champion were chosen from amongst the best from each class.

Overall Grand Champion was awarded to the hog owned by Addie Wood. Lori Millenbaugh’s hog won Overall Reserve Champion title.

When asking Wood how it felt to have an Overall Grand Champion Jackpot hog, she explained how it seemed like a dream come true.

“It’s really good! I told my parents before we came here, ‘I really want to win Jackpot, I’ve always wanted to win Jackpot!’ So I’m really excited and happy,” Wood expressed.

Wood’s pig who took home the title of Overall Grand Champion Jackpot had appropriately been named ‘Extra Extra Large’. Wood explained that even when Extra Extra Large was just a piglet, she was big and was showing that she would continue to grow steadily if taken care of properly.

According to Wood, it was not an easy process to make sure that Extra Extra Large, and her other pigs, were ready for the fair.

“It’s a lot of work. We walk them twice a day for ten minutes, and then we feed them, it’s a lot of hours. But we enjoy it, it’s a fun family project,”

Wood advised anyone who is just getting started in the world of showing pigs, to embrace the moments when you mess up because you will learn from them.

“It’s a learning experience, but it’s really fun. So every year is just learning… a lot of trial and error, a lot of trial and error,” Wood said.
