LORAIN—Ohio legislators passed a year-end spending bill that will provide $25 million in hunger relief funding to Ohio Foodbanks, including Second Harvest Food Bank (Second Harvest).
“We are so grateful to our governor, state senators, and representatives for supporting this bill,” said Julie Chase-Morefield, president and CEO of Second Harvest. “In this time of record inflation and economic instability, we are helping a third more people in need of assistance compared to pre-pandemic. This will help us purchase the food and supplies needed to continue serving our communities.”
The funds will be utilized to provide protein, shelf-stable and non-food items for the community members they serve, with an estimated value of just under $1M for their region.
Second Harvest is thanking Sen. Nathan Manning, Sen. Theresa Gavarone, Rep Gayle Manning, Rep. Riordan McClain, Rep. Joe Miller, Rep. Dick Stein, and Rep. DJ Swearingen for their time and efforts on this issue.
