On Monday afternoon, the poultry barn at the Crawford County fair was full of clucks and bustling from humans and fowl alike as the 2014 poultry show got underway.
There were multiple categories represented, including roasters, broilers, turkeys, and waterfowl; and 4-H members gathered to show off their hard work to the judges.
After a process that took up the bulk of the day, from 9 in the morning until 4 in the afternoon, the judge’s results came in and are as follows:
Grand Champion Meat Pen: Emma Studer
Reserve Grand Champion Meat Pen: Colton Guinther
Champion Turkey Pen: Colton Guinther
Champion Broiler Pen: Emma Studer
Champion Roaster Pen: Katelyn Cramer
Champion Waterfowl: Bryce Tieben
Reserve Champion Waterfowl: Nathanael Harris
Champion Fancy Pen: Nick Kemper
Reserve Champion Fancy Pen: Darren Wurm
Champion Pullet Pen: Nick Kemper
Reserve Champion Pullet Pen: Levi Hartschuh
Junior Skillathon Winner: Matt Schiefer
Intermediate Skillathon Winner: Anika Gerlach
Senior Skillation Winner: Abigail Gully
Junior Showmanship Winner: Bryce Tieben
Intermediate Showmanship Winner: Emma Studer
Senior Showmanship Winner: Colton Guinther
1st Outstanding Exhibitor: Emma Studer
2nd Outstanding Exhibitor: Quinton Hiler
3rd Outstanding Exhibitor: Zachary Hiler
At the end of the day, Emma Studer took home quite a few different titles. Although she has a lot to be proud of, Studer claims that she doesn’t do anything special, she just fed and watered her broilers, but that it’s important to have gained the knowledge 4-H has taught her over her time pursuing the project from the beginning.
“When you go to pick them out, that’s when you really have to be on your top game and know what you’re doing,” Studer said.
Studer must have gained the proper knowledge because in addition to earning the top title, she was awarded many others, including Showmanship and Outstanding Exhibtor,
She says, “It’s awesome because I picked them out pretty much by myself. It’s awesome to see how they went and grew and to be doing this, it’s really rewarding.”
