Bucyrus fifth grader Elyse Dye has been selected as one of twelve winners in the State of Ohio in the State Fire Marshall’s Office Fire Safety Week poster contest. The City of Bucyrus Fire Department sponsored the local contest, which led to Dye’s entry in the statewide contest.

As a statewide winner, Dye’s poster will be featured on the State Fire Marshall’s Office website. During the regular Board of Education meeting April 25, Mr. Troy Huth, a representative from the State Fire Marshall’s Office, presented Elyse with a certificate of achievement. She will also receive two smoke alarms, and her family will receive up to six passes to this summer’s Ohio State Fair in Columbus.

“This is a terrific accomplishment for Elyse,” Elementary School Principal Todd Roll said. “We are extremely proud of her for the hard work she invested in this project, and we hope she and her family enjoy the opportunity to attend the Ohio State Fair.”

The Bucyrus Board of Education also presented Elyse with a certificate of commendation for her achievement.

“We cherish every opportunity we can to publicly recognize our students for their outstanding accomplishments,” Superintendent Kevin Kimmel said. “We are so proud of the work and dedication of Elyse, her family, Mrs. Barger (Elyse’s teacher) and Mrs. Prenger (Elementary Art teacher), and the board commendation is a small way we can express our pride for a job well done.”
