BUCYRUS—Eighth-grade students at Colonel Crawford got to experience real-life scenarios by participating in a Reality Store.
Superintendent Todd Martin explained that students are given paychecks that they cash and then visit various stations and find out what it’s like in the real world dealing with paying bills and navigating life situations.
Martin manned the booth of “Life Surprises.” Sometimes students win, and sometimes they lose.
“At the end of the day they see how far money will go in real life. It’s a great activity that gives them real life experiences.” Martin said.
At another station, students learned about dealing with law enforcement.
Crawford County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Martin handed out citations for speed (running), no insurance after buying a car, and ACDA (running into a classmate).
They then had to pay their fines at the courthouse, run by School Resource Officer Sterling.
Some students navigated the activity as single adults, others married, and others with children.
