The Bucyrus City Schools Education Foundation recently announced the recipients of four Mini-Grants for the 2014-2015 school year. Each grant was worth $500 and was awarded to teachers to enhance student-learning experiences and provide unique staff development opportunities.

Recipients of the Mini-Grants included Middle School Art Teacher Olivia Adams, High School Art teacher Michael Striker, the Elementary School First Grade team and Elementary School teacher Kim Haldeman.

“The applications we received this year were very impressive,” Education Foundation President Cindy Wetterau said. “The funding is providing an array of activities for the district’s students and staff, and the Education Foundation is thrilled to be able to help provide these opportunities.”

Olivia Adams will be using her grant funding to teach Middle School students about the Native Americans while quilting totem poles. Michael Striker will be using the funds to teach High School students how to create stained glass.

The Elementary School First Grade team utilized the funding for class field trips to Sycamore Run Farms. And Kim Haldeman is using the grant to purchase “The Leader in Me” books for a staff book study at the Elementary School.

“We are very fortunate to have a fantastic support organization like the Bucyrus City Schools Education Foundation,” Bucyrus Superintendent Kevin Kimmel said. “These funds help our teachers and staff to continue striving to provide each our students with a customized and personalized educational experience.”
