In a scene more fitting for Christmas than Easter, the first ever Crawford County Junior Achievement Adult Easter Egg Scramble was held at Col. Crawford Friday night.
Even Jack Frost couldn’t keep away Peter Cottontail, he just helped hide the eggs better, as over 100 participants combed Col. Crawford’s football field in search of eggs. Over 500 eggs were hidden from sideline to sideline and end zone to end zone with prizes ranging from a small amount of candy to the golden egg prize of a 32” HDTV.
JA of North Central Ohio member Amanda Overton explained where the idea for the nighttime adult Easter egg scramble came from.
“Ten years ago when I was a volunteer intern planning events up in the Bowling Green, Ohio area, that was one of the events that I had planned,” Overton said. “And with the Bowl-a-Thon just kind of losing interest in the county, I thought this might be a fun, exciting, new, and fresh event that we can incorporate”
After the allotted time for searching for the hidden eggs on the football field, participants returned to the Col. Crawford cafeteria to turn their eggs in exchange for their prizes.
Coworkers Shari Bowlin, Kathy Heinlen, and Denny Enders attended the event together because their company, GE Lighting, works with JA.
“We have kids that are in Junior Achievement that come out and tour the shop, and we show them the stuff that we do out there. So we figured we would give back to Junior Achievement,” Enders said.
All three were in agreement that the snow made the Easter egg hunt that much more enjoyable.
“It made it more fun because the eggs were covered by the snow,” Enders said.
“It was a good time,” Bowlin said.
“It wasn’t too cold. Because you can get hot when walking out there, and it cooled things off,” Heinlen said.
Costing $10 per person, the event raised $4,500, which goes towards JA programs in Crawford County. The programs help teach students from grades K-12 a range of concepts and skills to help prepare them as they enter into the working world.
