There was plenty of interest in Bucyrus’ East Southern Avenue storm improvement project bid opening Tuesday morning with six companies being represented.
The Bucyrus City Board of Control opened bids for the project that will involve installing storm pipe from the east corporation line on Southern Avenue to Whetstone Street. There will also be storm sewer connections over to Robinhood and Sherwood drives and separation of some storm water from sanitary sewers.
The work is part of the detention pond that will be constructed in the southwest corner of the fairgrounds property, an area being provided to the city by the county to help alleviate flooding. In return, the city is granting a discount on storm water to the Crawford County Fair Board.
Dellinger Excavating, of Monroeville, submitted the lowest base bid at $527,120.06. Alternate bids of $23,761 and $11,530 were entered for south side drainage and fencing, respectively. The company estimated 180 days for the project.
The highest bid came from Mansfield-based Elite Excavating at $631,555 with an estimated project length of 150 days. That company’s alternate bids for south side drainage and fencing came in at $29,354 and $21,450, respectively.
Bids were also submitted by Helms & Sons Excavating ($552,777.58), Underground Utilities, Inc. ($582,793), Buckeye Excavating & Construction, Inc. ($612,409), and Mark Schaffer Excavating & Trucking, Inc. ($626,400). Mark Schaffer Excavating estimated the longest project length with 210 days while Buckeye Excavating set the shortest with 120 days.
