BUCYRUS — Early voting numbers are up across the nation and Crawford County is no exception.
According to Ruth Leuthold, director of the Crawford County Board of Elections, 4,222 people have either turned in their paper absentee ballots by mail or by dropping them off to the board of elections office or have come into the office and cast their ballots on a voting machine.
“In 2014, there were 2,533 absentee ballots cast which was a general election in which there was an open governor’s race like this election,” Leuthold said.
Early voting, which is the same thing as casting an absentee ballot, ends today at 2 p.m. at the Crawford County Board of Elections and all absentee ballots that are being mailed in must be postmarked today or dropped off at the board of elections, located in the lower level of the Crawford County Courthouse.
Polls will open at all precincts throughout the county Tuesday at 6:30 a.m. and will be open until 7:30 p.m. Voters should bring a valid ID.
Leuthold predicts that 53 percent of all registered voters in the county will cast a ballot in this election which is 10 percent above the 43 percent that voted in 2014.
