BUCYRUS — Popular summer events in Bucyrus and Galion temporarily have been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Bucyrus Area Chamber of Commerce Director Jessie Furner announced the First Friday event in June, originally scheduled for June 5, along with the first two Music at the Mural events, have been cancelled.
“July’s First Friday is still tentatively scheduled but may have more virtual and less traditional elements,” Furner said. “July’s First Friday is the same day as the Kiwanis fireworks display at the Crawford County Fairgrounds. We are working on creative ideas for all chamber events this summer in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. This was not an easy decision to make, but the BACC staff and Board of Directors feel that it is the safest for the community.”
Furner said the Chamber of Commerce took over First Fridays a few years ago.
“July’s First Friday is going to be at the same time and location as the Kiwanis Fireworks. Basically, we are just making goodie bags for the kids to distribute,” Furner said.
Galion-Crestline Chamber of Commerce Director Miranda Jones said the Third Friday events in Galion have been cancelled for May and June and it is unlikely the events will occur at all this summer.
“We are working closely with Trish Factor at the Galion Health Department to determine the best way to move forward. We want to support our local businesses and keep people safe at the same time,” Jones said.
She said Third Fridays began in 2017.
Jones said the Pickle Run also has been cancelled.
“The city has not made a decision yet on if the fireworks will be held and how it will be done,” Jones said.
She said other plans are in the works for residents to enjoy while supporting businesses in Galion and more information will be coming.
