The recap of the 2014 Hatchery Festival was one of success for the New Washington Village Council.
Police Chief Scott Robertson reported, “Absolutely zero problems,” and Fire Chief Dick Ackerman’s report was similar. One small caveat from Ackerman was that they noticed some encroachment around the fireworks set up on Saturday, but when the people were asked to leave there was complete cooperation.
The fireworks need a 350-feet buffer zone, and Ackerman asked for better barricades and signage at the park next year.
Administrator Norm Lucius reported that the stop sign which had been requested at the last meeting had been installed. The intersection of the newly minted Weithman Way and Washington Street had previously had stop signs removed. Those stop signs have been reestablished on the north-south running Weithman Way.
Joe Blum informed council that the contractor who has been working on the Union Cemetery agreed to work over the next two years at $4,000 per year. This work is to straighten gravestones and general clean-up work. He also added that more work will be done in the fall, with billing delayed until spring of 2015.
Jerri Lucius brought forward a renewal of the village’s liability insurance. The village will continue working with Insurance Corporation, the former Midland Agency. The bill for July 12, 2013 to July 12, 2014 was $11,467. The bill for July 12, 2014 to July 12, 2015 will be $11,825.
It has been discovered that the current flood lights in use at the pool are becoming more and more difficult to find. Dave Aichholz, who is doing the electrical and plumbing work on the poolhouse renovation, suggested alternative lights be found for this facility. That will be added to the second round of work to the pool which will take place in 2015.
Council ended the meeting by convening an executive session.
