A beautiful Monday morning suddenly became anything but when a dump truck and car collided head-on on Ohio 598. The call came into the dispatcher at 11:12 a.m.
The accident occurred just south of Kile Road. Onlookers indicated and Crawford County Sheriff Scott Kent confirmed that a northbound dump truck went into the ditch and then back on the road where it crossed the center line and hit a southbound late-model Chevrolet Impala.
While the car remained in the roadway, the truck careened off the road and came to rest in a yard on the west side of the highway. Both vehicles were heavily damaged.
“It looks pretty serious,” Kent said.
LifeFlight to St. Vincents and St. Rita’s in Toledo came directly to the scene. Twenty-three-year-old Ethan Stephens of Plymouth, the driver of the Impala, was flown to Toldeo St. Vincent’s Hospital with serious visible injuries. Forty-eight-year-old Johnny Seitz of Galion, the driver of the dump truck, was transported to the Galion Community Hospital with minor injuries.
The Tiro-Aurburn Fire Department, Jefferson Township Fire Department, LifeStar Ambulance in addition to Kent and other officers from his office were also at the scene.
The road was closed as a result of the accident and reopened around 2 p.m.
