Bucyrus United Methodist Church is holding a ground-breaking ceremony at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, July 28 to kick off construction of an $800,000 expansion to its Worship Center at 227 S. Walnut St., close to downtown Bucyrus. The community is invited to attend.
The expansion to the north side of the building will add much-needed classrooms and restrooms, a covered drop-off area and improved access for the handicapped. A large lobby and fellowship area will feature the stain glass window depicting Jesus praying in the Garden of Gethsemane, which is currently on the south side of the former Gracechurch building at 318 Hopley Ave.
Bucyrus UMC was founded in 2011 by the merger of three Bucyrus United Methodist churches: First, Epworth and Grace. Worship services, including weddings and funerals, are held in the WorshipCenter, where the expansion is taking place. Two worship services are held each Sunday to to accommodate the growing congregation: 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Administrative offices and outreach activities are in the Administration & Outreach Center at 216 Hopley Ave. The congregation is led by Pastor Mike Corwin and Rev. Don Kraps.
