BUCYRUS―In honor of the 50th anniversary of the Bucyrus Historical Society, a flower show has been organized the Earth, Wind and Flowers Garden Club.

According to the group’s founder, Mary Lee Minor, the idea for the “Downtown Bucyrus-Reminiscing 50 Years,” was inspired by a book and conversation.

“I was talking with Ray McCall about the history of Bucyrus’ downtown stores and he told me to read his book,” Minor said.

Minor read her copy of, “Ray’s Reflections of Bucyrus History,” and brainstormed with her club members to come up with ideas to create flower arrangements to pay tribute to stores and business from long ago, such as Baumoel’s, Isaly’s, Ulmer’s Gifts and Music, Schrier’s Cheese, Mac’s, Isaly’s and Henry’s Studio and Camera Shop.

“Stores and businesses from years ago like are being given floral tributes. The flower show is being staged throughout the Historical Society main house and in the Carriage House. Schwinn bicycles with baskets filled with flowers will appear in the back yard beside the Crane Fountain,” said Minor.

Minor launched the Earth, Wind and Flowers Garden Club after moving to Bucyrus 34 years ago.

“I had lived in three cities at that point and had started a garden club in each one,” said Minor.

The club currently has 32 members and participates in many activities around the city, including the watering of the downtown flower baskets and the planting and care of flower beds throughout the Crawford County Fairgrounds.

The Downtown Bucyrus-Reminiscing 50 Years will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 22, and on Sunday, June 23, from noon to 4 p.m. at the Bucyrus Historical Society, located at 202 S. Walnut St., Bucyrus. The event is open to the public and is free of charge.

Hostesses will be available to greet visitors and Historical Society Board members will be on hand to answer questions.
