Although Christmas is far away, Bucyrus First Friday wants to invite the community to help them celebrate Christmas-in July. This Friday, July 7, Bucyrus will be hosting their July edition of First Friday.
Many opportunities for the community to show their festiveness will be taking place. Local businesses have the chance to decorate their windows or door fronts with the new Window and Door Decorating contest. The goal is to fill the downtown with Christmas décor, mixed with a bit of July fun and creativity.
Businesses participating in the contest must be registered by Thursday, July 6. All decorations must be in place by July 7 at 5 p.m. Representatives from United Way of Crawford County will be judging the contest. Results will be announced at 7 p.m. and the top three winners will be awarded prizes.
Entry forms are available online. Entry forms must be given to Katie Kruse at katiesuterkruse@gmail.com no later than July 6.
For those looking for a little competitive edge, a Christmas Corn Hole Tournament will be kicking off at 6 p.m. The tournament will be held in the FC Bank parking lot and is open to adults ages 18 and up. Teams of two players can enter with a double elimination rounds with a Winners Bracket and a Losers Bracket.
Prizes will be awarded to teams placing in the top three. Prizes will include: The lucky team able to snatch up first place will receive a $100 cash prize donated by Ooh La-La Salon. The team placing second will be given a $30 Gift Card donated by FC Bank, plus your entry fee back. Third place will receive Corn Hole Can Koozies plus entry fee back.
Entry forms are available online and a $10 entry fee is also required. All entry forms and $10 entry fees must be turned in by July 6 to Salon Ooh-LA-La, 116 W. Warren Street Bucyrus, OH 44820. For any last minute entries, sign-up will also be available in the FC Bank parking lot from 5:00-5:45 p.m. on July 7.
Although the Christmas Corn Hole Tournament is for the adults, the kiddos will also get a chance to play during the corn hole toss hosted by the Young Professionals. This corn hole toss will be held on West Warren Street and is open to any age.
It wouldn’t be Christmas time without a proper snowball fight, so United Bank will be hosting a “snowball fight” with water balloons will be held on East Warren Street by the Art Park. Santa will also be located on East Warren Street by the Art Park all decked out in his Hawaiian attire and ready for photo sessions.
For other fun activities for the youngsters, a Kid’s Area will be located on West Rensselaer Street. Featured activities are to be provided by Bucyrus Public Library and the Bucyrus United Methodist Church. The Nazarene Church are also said to be providing some holiday crafts and games to spread the holiday spirit. The Kiwanis Santa House will also be located in the Kid’s Area.
The concession area will be taking on two new vendors for July, Higbie Concessions and CFM Concessions LLC & Sunset Slush of NCO. Higbie Concessions, a local diner on wheels features hamburgers, hot dogs, and fries. CFM Concessions LLC & Sunset Slush of NCO will be providing refreshment from the heat with their Italian Ice.
First Baptist Church will be selling their famous Brat-ritta’s, the American Legion will be serving sandwiches in their basement, and Mark’s Homemade Ice Cream will provide the ultimate solution to a sweet craving.
Entertainment for the evening will include a juggler roaming the main drag of Sandusky Avenue throughout the night. Other entertainment will include: Brian Copper & Friends- located at the Mural, Al Fraizer & Friends- located in the Food Court, Greg Bell-located in FC Bank Parking Lot, and Lourie Ann & Chad Brown- located at the Tourism Bureau.
All community members are invited to join First Friday on the streets of downtown Bucyrus from this Friday, July 7 from 5-8 p.m. Enjoy the festivities and shop around the town as Christmas in July cheer is spread throughout the town. Hawaiian shirts or tropical attire is welcomed and encouraged.
