With tax season around the corner the City of Bucyrus will be updating its court summons list for failure to file Bucyrus Income Tax.
Bucyrus Police Chief Dave Koepke reported an ongoing issue of releasing summons on those not filing or paying taxes owed. Koepke shared that the issue was greater two years ago noting that there were over 1,200 cases of unfiled taxes, and that this past year the number was cut in half to 600 cases.
Koepke added that those who don’t file their local portion of income taxes could miss out on a return. Even if nothing is owed to the city individuals still have an obligation to file their local income tax as the summonses clog up the court system.
April 15 is the final date to file taxes without a penalty.
