BUCYRUS—Kristopher Davidson, 36, of Galion appeared in Crawford County Common Pleas Court on Thursday to answer to an alleged community control violation.

Davidson pleaded guilty to possession of drugs and was sentenced to prison for 12 months in April of 2020. He was granted judicial release one month later and placed on five years of community control.

According to probation officer Jeremy Clay, Davidson has not reported for office visits since June. A warrant was issued and Davidson was taken into custody on Wednesday.

Clay informed the court that in a routine drug test taken at the time of arrest, Davidson tested positive for several drugs including meth and ecstasy.

Crawford County Common Pleas Court Judge Sean Leüthold asked for bond recommendations from the State and Defense.

Assistant Prosecutor Ryan Hoovler out lined Davidson’s lengthy prison record that included charges for failure to appear for court proceedings. “Based on the defendant’s record, to insure he appears in court and to protect himself and the community from his illegal drug use we would ask the court for a $75,000.00 bond.” Hoovler said.

Defense attorney Brad Starkey who represented Davidson on the underlying charge told the court his client was trying to get into treatment noting that delays from COVID have most likely contributed to his inability to find treatment. He told the court his client intended to appear for all future hearings. Starkey also told the court if bond was set today he would meet with his client and possibly submit a motion to reduce bond at a later time.

Judge Leüthold Sean  addressed the court “Mr. Davidson tested positive for many drugs which leads me to be concerned about his mental health” Leüthold said.

Leüthold also cited his lengthy felony record and the fact he cannot be trusted to return for court. Leüthold set bond at $50,000.00 and ordered the matter for a final hearing.
