BUCYRUS, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—In a sudden move, Diamond Wipes has permanently closed its facility located at 1375 Isaac-Beal Rd. as of Thursday, leaving approximately 40 employees without jobs.
Sources indicate that the closure follows the company’s recent expansion efforts, which included the opening of a new plant in Wisconsin.
Initially, employees were unaware that the Bucyrus operation was at risk of shutdown. However, corporate officials arrived Thursday after the day shift concluded and gathered staff in the break room, where they announced the facility’s permanent closure.
The abrupt termination has left many employees in distress, with some reportedly close to retirement and others anxious about the upcoming holiday season without employment. Permanent employees received severance pay, but those hired through outside agencies were reportedly left without any compensation.
Diamond Wipes opened its operation in the 65,000 square foot facility in 2006.
The economic impact on Bucyrus and Crawford County increases the challenges faced by workers in the area due to a series of recent plant shutdowns.
