More than 79 million Americans have prediabetes and do not know it. That’s why OhioHealth MedCentral is making a concerted effort to educate people in our communities about the devastating effects of diabetes.

Classes for the next Diabetes Prevention Program will start in August with three class times and locations:

  • OhioHealth MedCentral Shelby- Monday, Aug.11, 5 p.m.
  • OhioHealth MedCentral Mansfield – Wednesday, Aug. 13, 5 p.m.
  • OhioHealth MedCentral Wellness Complex in Ontario – Wednesday, Aug. 13, 9 a.m.

The Diabetes Prevention Programs is offered to those who are at high risk for developing diabetes and meet the inclusion criteria. The program is a one-year course with classes held weekly for the first 16 weeks and then monthly thereafter for the remainder of the year.

All classes are taught by trained lifestyle coaches. The focus is on restructuring dietary intake through weekly food logs and recommendations, increasing physical activity and addressing the emotional barriers that prevents individuals from committing to lifestyle changes.

This National Diabetes Prevention Program can help reduce your chances of getting Type 2 diabetes.

One previous participant said, “This program is not a weight loss program. Going on a diet is not the treatment for diabetes or prediabetes. A lifestyle change is the treatment.”
