BUCYRUS—A new candidate has been put in place by the Crawford County Democratic Committee to run in the general election for a position on Bucyrus City Council.

Long-time Bucyrus resident Chuck Stone will be running for third ward council member on the ballot in November.

According to Wanda Sharrock, secretary of the committee, since Republican candidate Christina Surgener was certified months ago to run for the position of third ward council member but then dropped out of the race, both the local Republican Party and the Democratic parties could put a candidate on the ballot for that specific position.

“Chuck decided to run as our candidate and the Republican Party has already nominated Terry Spiegel for their candidate to be on the ballot,” said Sharrock.

An independent candidate, Brad Seibert, has also thrown his hat in the ring for the position and will also appear on the general election ballot when people in the city’s third ward go to the voting booths in November.

The position is currently held by Doug Foght who has chosen not to run for re-election.

Other candidates running for Bucyrus City Council include:

Kurt A. Fankhauser and Brian Seybert for Council President

Angela Miller for city treasurer

Mark A. Makeever, Kevin S. Myers, Marc A. Shultz, and Daniel Wirebaugh for three available positions as council-at-large members

Brenton Potter unopposed for first ward council member

Aaron Sharrock unopposed for second ward council member

Steven D. Young unopposed for fourth ward council member
