BUCYRUS—Nina Edwards, 29, of Bucyrus, was taken into custody during a visit to adult probation on Friday. Upon submission to a drug test, Edwards tested positive for fentanyl.
Edwards was placed on five years of probation after she pleaded guilty in February to one count of attempting to commit an offense, a felony of the fourth degree, punishable with up to 18 months in prison. Special conditions of her community control included drug treatment and a curfew from 10 pm-6 am.
According to probation officer Kylie Sinclair, Edwards came in for an office visit later than the appointed time for her visit. She told Sinclair she had been accepted into Day One Integrated Services in Marion. She was to report on Monday.
Edwards told Sinclair that she thought she had to test “dirty” or she wouldn’t be allowed into the program so she took the fentanyl to secure her spot in the sober living facility. She was taken into custody by Sinclair. Edwards appeared before visiting Judge Howard Hall of Morrow County.
Hall found probable cause to set the matter for a full hearing. He reappointed attorney Brian Gernert to defend Edwards.
Crawford County Prosecutor Matt Crall asked that Edwards be held on a $25,000.00 bond. “ We ask for the bond because of Ms. Edwards’ inability to stay away from dangerous drugs that can be quite lethal. This is for her own safety.” Crall said.
Hall agreed and ordered Edwards taken into custody until she could have a full hearing on the violation.
