BUCYRUS—Recently, DECA (Distributive Education Club of America) students held an assembly for Fran Swavel, one of the Bucyrus High School secretaries. Swavel was recently diagnosed with uterine cancer. DECA does its best to help out the community, especially within the Bucyrus School District. Maddison McDaniel had the idea to give back to the woman who always gives to others. Her cause was presented to the DECA chapter. They unanimously agreed to run with this project. It was stated (in the surprise assembly), “She has been going through treatments and battling, and yet I have never seen her without a smile on her face.”
DECA students led the fundraiser by working with Pioneer, Fusion Apparel, staff, and students by selling merchandise, with all proceeds going to Fran.
By selling 96 shirts, DECA was able to raise $700 to donate to Fran to assist with medical expenses.
