They say that if you do what you love, and love what you do eventually money will come your way. One local man is hoping that the adage is correct as he forges out on his own for his new business venture.

After working as a landscaper as a side job for seven years, Bryce Pfleiderer is hoping to turn that side project into his full-time job with Cutting Edge Landscaping. Pfleiderer explains what gave him the inspiration to pursue landscaping as a career.

“In high school I used to mow for my old boss, Bill Spangler, and he ran a pretty good size business for four or five of us,” Pfleiderer said. “He just kind of interested me in it, and I got to know the business side of it for those five or six years and kind of led me to where I am at today.”

Pfleiderer explained what type of landscaping work Cutting Edge is looking to do.

“We do commercial mowing and residential mowing, landscaping as well mulching, stoning, just things like that as of now,” Bryce said.

While this is the company’s first year of operation, Pfleiderer noted that they have already picked up a few jobs including work for a few apartment complexes in Bucyrus and Galion, as well as working with Colonel Crawford Schools. Pfleiderer explained that while he has these jobs he hopes to expand so that he can add a few extra workers.

“It’s just me and my brother (Logan Pfleiderer) is going to help me part-time. I’m a one-man crew as of now. Eventually in a year or two I would like to get a couple other guys to help out and maybe have some full-time guys,” Pfleiderer said. “I would like to do more commercial and residential and kind of get my name out there. As of now I am building my name, and putting in the detail work that I have to in order to prove that I am worthy of some good work.”

Pfleiderer, who works with J & F Construction, explained that he had thought about going into landscaping full-time and it was the support of his father-in-law Jim Mayes that pushed him into going into the landscaping business.

“I have been with J & F Construction for three years and wanted to work for myself,” Pfleiderer said. “My boss and father-in-law, Jim Mayes, pushed me into it. I had asked him and he told me to go with my gut. To do this I really needed everyone’s support, and it is great to have everyone behind me on that. Without the support I wouldn’t be able to do it.”

The detail that goes into landscaping and making an art out of it is Pfleiderer’s favorite aspect about that job.

“The best part is more of the detailed part of it. You can make a yard an art. And the landscaping side, you get to go out there and edge the yard.
