BUCYRUS — Cricket Wireless is hoping its “Big Network” will help Crawford County residents stay connected with a new retail store at 149 S. Stetzer Road.
The company, a provider of pre-paid cell phones, opened in January next to the Walmart plaza, with a grand opening set for Friday, Feb. 28.
“Anything you need for phones, we should have inside the store,” district manager Sammy Kayed said.

Cricket Wireless, which operates more than 5,000 stores across the United States, sells smartphones, as well as speakers, wireless earbuds, Bluetooth headsets and a variety of phone cases and accessories at its new Bucyrus location, Kayed said.
Customers may get a free smartphone from well-known brands like LG, Samsung and Motorola, he said, if they switch from their current carrier to AT&T, the parent company of Cricket. Monthly plans include talking, texting and a high-speed data allowance.
“The AT&T tower signals are really good,” Kayed said. “With the Cricket plan you shouldn’t have any problem. We really have a great network, plus at the same time it’s pre-paid. It’s not an annual contract.”

Cricket Wireless in Bucyrus currently has two full-time employees, but additional hiring is expected down the road, he said.
Hours are daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Sundays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The telecommunications company, which was founded in 1999, is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. It provides wireless service to more than 10 million subscribers nationwide.
