BUCYRUS — Emergency crews responded to Bucyrus Secondary School after a fire alarm was pulled Tuesday morning.

Bucyrus City Schools Superintendent Kevin Kimmel said a student reportedly was involved in a form of horseplay and a fire alarm was activated as a result.

Kimmel said a school resource officer was near the incident and secured the student as the school was evacuated shortly before 8 a.m. Classes at the Bucyrus Secondary School begin at 7:50 a.m.

School resource officer Jo Stahl said an officer was in every district school building, allowing for a quick response to the situation.

According to Kimmel, no threat or dangerous situation occurred, and students were shortly brought back into the building and resumed classes as normal. He said the incident now is under investigation.

Stahl said the incident will be reviewed on surveillance footage from school camera’s. Kimmel added the student will be dealt with accordingly.

Stahl said the severity of the punishment varies from case to case, especially when involving a juvenile.

She added anytime an evacuation of a large body of people takes place, and multiple agencies respond, the issue is dealt with the severity as deemed fit, especially if intentional.

Kimmel reiterated that it was quickly found that no student was ever in danger and the school resource officers acted quickly to diffuse the situation alongside the Bucyrus Fire Department, which responded to the scene as well.
