Vogt, who graduated from West Point, was stationed with the Army in Afghanistan when an IED exploded and took both of Vogt’s legs above the knee. That same explosion killed another soldier in his company.
Vogt is an intern in the Leadership Education and Development division at the Naval Academy. Vogt is continuing to receive therapy for his injuries at Walter Reed Hospital. Vogt is considering remaining at the Academy through the next academic year. His future plans include applying for Ph.D. programs in pursuit of a career in medical research.
