“It’s the right thing to do”… Galion to provide Crestline with Fire and EMS Coverage..
GALION–The Galion City Council voted unanimously at Tuesday’s meeting to take over Crestline’s fire and EMS services for at least ninety days.
The Village of Crestline contacted the Galion Fire Department for help amid extreme staffing issues. Recently, the fire department has been understaffed or not staffed at all. The agreement between the Village and Galion will provide fire and EMS services until the Village fire department can recruit, hire and train personnel.
The initial agreement, if necessary, can be extended beyond ninety days.
Most importantly, the services Galion will provide to Crestline will not affect the department’s ability to serve its community. The Village of Crestline will pay to cover all costs related to the services provided, including wages and overtime.
Galion will be able to bill for EMS transports, thereby covering for wear and tear on their equipment.
Councilman Carl Watt told the council, “It’s the right thing to do.”
