SHELBY, OH: The arena at Pioneer Career and Technology Center was packed with excited Pioneer students and proud family members last Thursday, May 5th for the annual honors night. During the event, students were recognized for achieving, performing and succeeding at extraordinary levels.
Scholarships were awarded to many students for continuing education with the total amount over 1.6 million dollars! Pioneer also announced 404 special awards presented to 238 Pioneer students!
A major highlight of the evening was the announcement of this year’s Byron H. Carmean Award winner, Ellen Dailey, a Crestline High School senior. Ellen is the first Crestline High School student to win the Bryron H. Carmean Award! Dailey has excelled in the Early Childhood Education program with instructor Melinda Meisse. The Carmean Award is the highest award given to a Pioneer student and was created to recognize students with outstanding qualities of character, personal dedication and service to education. In addition to Dailey’s classroom success, she is a tremendous athlete. She has played volleyball, basketball and softball at Crestline as well as travel softball. She is a member of the Crestline National Honor Society, was Crestline’s Scholar of the Month in February 2016 and Pioneer’s Student of the Month in September 2015. On top of all of that Ellen works as a childcare provider at Pioneer’s Preschool and a summer camp worker at the Shelby YMCA. Ellen plans to attend North Central State University to earn her Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education then transfer to either Ashland University or Malone to pursue her Bachelor’s Degree.
Dailey was awarded $1,000 from the Byron Carmean Scholarship Award/BOE, $1,500 from the Gorman Family Carmean Scholarship, and $500 from the Byron Carmean Scholarship Award/EAP.
This year’s other deserving nominees for this award includes the following seniors: MacKenzie Cass, Northmor, Medical Technologies; Adam Cunningham, Plymouth, Performing Arts; Brandy Mizer, Willard, Exercise Science and Sports Medicine; and Tanner Zaebst, Buckeye Central, Welding.
