BUCYRUS — Margaret Fife of Crestline appeared in Crawford County Common Pleas Court Wednesday to plead guilty to violating the terms and conditions of her community control.
According to probation officer Eric Bohach, Fife, 38, tested positive for meth and methamphetamines during a routine drug test.
Fife originally pleaded guilty to aggravated burglary in November 2017. She was the driver of a vehicle that transported a man to an ex-girlfriend’s home to confront her because she had a new boyfriend. A neighbor called police and reported a disturbance at the residence. Fife then warned the intruder the police were on the way.
“Had these neighbors not called the police, this could have very well resulted in a double murder,” Common Pleas Court Judge Sean Leuthold said.
Leuthold sentenced Fife to four years in prison and she was granted judicial release in April 2018 and placed on five years of community control.
Fife’s attorney, Tom Nicholson, said his client needs to make a completely new life for herself and to make better friends.
“Aggravated burglary is a very serious crime,” Leuthold said. “One hundred days in jail upon judicial release did not work and community based-correctional facilities did not work. I will not tolerate violations.”
Leuthold reimposed the entire four-year prison sentence. Fife will receive credit for jail time served.
In other court action, Dustin Crawford, 28, of Bucyrus pleaded guilty to violating the terms and conditions of his community control. According to allegations, Crawford resisted arrest in Galion, changed his address without notifying adult probation, failed to appear for ordered visits, spoke to the probation office, admitted drug use, and refused a drug test.
Crawford originally pleaded guilty to two counts of possession of drugs, each fifth-degree felonies and each punishable with up to one year in prison. In December 2019 he was granted judicial release.
Leuthold sentenced Crawford to prison, ordering one year on each count for a total of two years in prison. Crawford will receive credit for time served. Leuthold said he would not oppose transitional control if the prison requested it.
Robert Jones, 28, of Bucyrus pleaded guilty to violating the terms and conditions of her community control. In March, Jones pleaded guilty to two counts of possession of drugs, each a fifth-degree felony and each punishable with up to one year in prison.
Jones was placed on five years of community control. According to probation officer Kylie Sinclair, Jones tested positive for amphetamines, cocaine, fentanyl, meth, morphine, and other drugs.
Leuthold sentenced Jones to six months in prison on each count for a total of 12 months in prison. Leuthold said he would not oppose transitional control if the prison requested it.
