BUCYRUS — Crestline teacher Cory Forshaw appeared in Crawford County Common Pleas Court on Wednesday for a fourth pretrial hearing and an arraignment on an amended felony charge.

Forshaw, a fourth-grade teacher at Crestline City Schools, was indicted on one count of sexual battery, a third-degree felony punishable with up to 36 months in prison.

Forshaw appeared in court with his attorney, James Mayer, of Mansfield. The new indictment is the same as the original indictment, but he was re-indicted in a fashion that follows the facts regarding the student in a more appropriate manner.

Crawford County Common Pleas Judge Sean Leuthold noted that the old case would be dismissed but all the evidence from the original case will be transferred to the new case number.

Leuthold noted that, while there were significant plea negotiations attempted, it did not appear an agreement could be reached. Leuthold ordered a motion hearing to be scheduled before trial to discuss legal issues concerning the charges as well as a trial date.

Forshaw posted a $100,000 bond which was continued on the new case along with the condition that he has no contact with the victim. If convicted, Forshaw would have to register as a sex offender. Forshaw retained Mayer as his counsel.
