CRESTLINE―A Crestline teacher has been indicted by the Crawford County Grand Jury.
Corey Forshaw is charged with one count of sexual battery, a third-degree felony. He is accused of having sexual conduct with a student enrolled at Crestline Exempted Village Schools.
Forshaw taught fifth grade for the school district until May 22 when he was placed on paid leave pending the outcome of an investigation by the Crestline Police Department and a separate investigation by the school district.
While the Crestline Police Department, led by Chief Jeff Shook, has been investigating the sexual battery case involving a male student, Crestline EVSD Interim Superintendent John Miller has also been conducting his own investigation. His investigation includes the accusation of improper messaging with a student dating back to 2016.
Evidence in the sexual battery criminal case has been evaluated by the Ohio Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
Miller said previously that comments on some of Forshaw’s evaluations from 2011 and 2012 noted that the teacher has “a very informal manner with his students in the past that has caused some concerns.”
In a press release on Thursday, Crawford County Prosecutor Matthew E. Crall, stated, “I will not be commenting on the merits of this issue because the fairness of our judicial system requires that disputed issues be determined in a court of law not the court of public opinion. The Crestline Village Police Department and the Crestline Village Exempted Schools have and will continue to do everything they can do to safeguard the students that they both serve.”
Crall said that Forshaw was served the indictment on Wednesday and that he is being represented by an attorney. Bond will be set for Forshaw at his arraignment, which may be held on Monday.
