The large number of cars parked along Coyer Road Tuesday evening was an indication of just how large the turnout was for the Crestline school district’s open house. It was the first open house including the elementary portion in the new K-12 school building.

The open house, which was held to get students acclimated to the new school before the 2013-2014 school year begins, was also a celebration for the community with members of the village and alumni of the school also coming out to view the new Crestline campus.

Kris Bruce, who was campaign chairman for the school’s construction levy, was overjoyed.

“I think the community is just so excited about having this brand new school. The students are excited, school starts in a couple of days so they were excited and they came out,” Bruce said. “I am just really proud of this brand new school, and I just really appreciate the Crestline citizens; if the voters said no, we wouldn’t be sitting here now.”

The consensus of many who took the tour of the new building was that the building was beautiful.

Jody Mills who went to the now old middle school as well as high school said, “It is very nice. It is great that the community has a newer facility for the younger generation.”

Former teacher and coach in the Crestline school district Robert Miller said of the building, “It is gorgeous; it is nice for the community as well as the kids. I taught for 30 years and would have loved to have taught here.”

Prior to the open house a ribbon cutting ceremony was held to officially open the new building for its first full school year.

While the new school will be used for the K-12 classrooms, the grounds that the high school had previously resided will be turned into a playground, as well as a drop off for the elementary, and extra parking spaces for the school.
