CRESTLINE—After the school board meeting Monday evening, the Crestline Exempted Village School District now has a School Resource Officer (SRO) as well as a new athletic director.

The board unanimously voted to create the position of the SRO for the period of Aug. 1, 2021, through July 31, 2022.

“This is a culmination of two years of work to make this happen,” said Superintendent Matt Henderson.

The Crestline Police officer who will be working in the position, Jason Bush, was at the meeting along with Crestline Police Chief Jeff Shook.

“I am excited about this position and the good relationship we have with the school district,” said Shook.

The board also voted unanimously to hire Jonny King as the new athletic director to replace Greg Travis who resigned to take a job with another district.

King will also fulfill the roles of assistant principal, head football coach and dean of students.

Before approving a variety of other certified and non-certified staff positions ahead of the new school year, the board took in presentations by Kyle Kohls who is in the process of starting a wrestling program for younger children, Clayton Herold reminding people of the upcoming reverse raffle and event at The Hub in Crestline on Aug. 14 and Adrienne Krizan and Paig Porter of JPB Marketing who presented the social media and other marketing services they can offer the school district.

The board tentatively voted for an all-day preschool option and approved a multi-categorical classroom for grades kindergarten through second.

The board adjourned into executive session to discuss the purchase of property for public purposes and employment or compensation of an employee or official with no action being taken on Monday evening.
