CRESTLINE — Staff members at Crestline Exempted Village Schools are working together to provide meals to students during the COVID-19 pandemic break.

The plan began Wednesday, March 18 in which more than 400 lunch and 400 breakfasts were distributed throughout the village on the first day. Nearly 1,000 lunches and breakfasts were delivered Thursday.

“We have a responsibility to do whatever we can do as a school district to serve our students,” Superintendent Matt Henderson said. “Schools are more than centers of teaching and learning. We hope to continue many of the social supports we provide during the school closure. The meal delivery plan is one of those programs.”

The meal plan for the district is carried out by bus drivers, aides and food service workers. Meals are delivered daily to bus stops around the village beginning at 11:30 a.m. and continuing until all stops are made. A grab-and-go site for meals is located at the Crestline PreK-12 building located at 435 Oldfield Road from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., weekdays.

“Our families have been extremely patient and understanding as we work to make this process as efficient as possible,” Henderson said. “Our team is working hard to ensure we reach every family.”

Local businesses and agencies are supporting Crestline families in partnership with the district. Freezer Fresh is providing lunch on the weekend. Families can contact those businesses for more information. Emmanuel’s Bread will continue distributing backpacks to families on Friday’s during the break. The backpacks will also be delivered by bus to families.

Crestline Schools Food Service Director Kerri Wilhite appreciates this opportunity to serve.

“Our ‘Feed the Bulldog’ team consists of bus drivers, aides, and food service staff,” Wilhite explained. “They’re working hard to ensure that all of our students are properly fed each day with a breakfast/lunch bag, delivered to their homes.  We are fortunate to participate in a federal program which allows us to feed all of our students for free and to have caring, hard-working people to carry out the mission of keeping our students fed.”

Information on all district pandemic plans are shared via the Crestline EVSD Facebook page, the Honeywell Alert System, and the school district website.
