Crestline schools aren’t wasting any time in filling recently vacated positions within its administration. The Crestline Board of Education approved numerous employment contracts during Monday night’s meeting, chief among them the positions for elementary principal and treasurer.

The school board approved a two-year administrative contract for Bradd Stevens to serve as the district’s treasurer. The contract included 260 days with a salary of $57,000. That salary would be contingent upon Stevens completing and submitting all employment credentials and paperwork.

Melissa Watters was accepted as the elementary principal. Watters had been a teacher within the Lexington School District.

The approval of Stevens and Watters still leaves the superintendent and high school principal positions open.

The school board also approved the resignation of Dave Heflinger as superintendent effective July 22. Heflinger will be moving on to take the superintendent position at Field Local School District in Portage County.

“I want to thank the board for five years here,” Heflinger said. “I certainly appreciate all your support.”

High school principal Doug Potts also recently resigned and will be moving on serve as principal at Fredericktown High School.

Jackie Flinders was awarded a contract as the 2013-2014 varsity softball coach. Katie Stasen will take her place as the varsity volleyball coach for the 2013-2014 school year. Stasen was also awarded a one-year limited teaching contract as a high school social studies teacher.

Other employment contracts awarded included one-year limited teaching contracts for Chelsea Moyer (7th and 8th grade science), Hannah Ruth (Kindergarten), and Michelle Lowery (Special Education—Multiple Handicap), Lee Hurst (Special Education); a five-year administrative contract for David Horning as Supervisor of Facilities and Grounds at a $45,000 salary; and two-year non-certificated limited contracts to Benjamin Hocker and Warner Haag.

The Board of Education approved policies for the Ohio Teacher Evaluation System and the Ohio Principal Evaluation System. Both are policies required by law.

The board reviewed Moderalli Excavating, Inc. bid for the demolition of the Southeast Intermediate and South Central School Buildings. They passed a resolution authorizing the treasurer to enter into a contract with Moderalli Excavating, Inc. for the amount of $83,082 to complete the demolition. The district originally estimated the cost of the project to be $169,670.

A three-year service agreement with Schmidt Security Pro was approved. Schmidt Security Pro will perform annual fire system inspections for the district. A one-year agreement with Invo HealthCare associates to provide physical therapy services to the district was also approved.
