In a special meeting Thursday, the Crestline Board of Education voted whether or not to pursue an operations levy for the November election.
The Crestline Board unanimously approved to have Treasurer Bradd Stevens contact the County Auditor in order to start the process of being put up for vote in the November’s election.
The Board also agreed that the levy issue would be a ¾ of a percent earned income levy, which would not affect fixed incomes.
Stevens explained that the 3/4 of a percent levy would cover the $590,000 per year in deficit spending and would equate to $200 per year for an individual making $20,000 per year.
Crestline Superintendent Noreen Mullins said that there will be meetings with the public on the issue.
“Within the district, not necessarily with the board there will be public meetings with Bradd and myself to discuss,” Superintendent Mullins said. “There is a lot of things that we share at the board meetings that don’t get out to the public, and it is going to be a tough sale, and we would them like to have as much information as possible.”
The Crestline Exempted Village School District has until July 25 to file with the state for inclusion on the November ballot.
Levies were not the only thing voted upon by the Crestline school board Thursday night.
The Crestline Board of Education voted for/against a contract with the Galion City Health Department for nursing services for the cost of $28,500 for the 2014-2015 school year.
The Board also approved an appropriation for an extra $2000 for year end operating expenses.
The next scheduled Crestline Board of Education meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 17, 2014 in the Crestline High School Library.
