Students in the Crestline school district are enjoying a new building this year and the school board is doing its part to make the educational experience a new one as well.

The board discussed several new programs and policies at its meeting Monday that are being enacted this year including a daily study table for athletes. Board member Tom Clutter said the changes will benefit Crestline students.

“The change in schedule for the high school, very important and also the study table that’s being implemented at the end of the day for all the Athletes is very important,” Clutter said.

On a day with normal school hours, third period will be a school-wide study hall for all high school students in which they will have access to their teachers. Then on delay days, the third period will be eliminated and the classes will carry on as usual. The study table for athletes is a 45-minute period after school each day for them to do homework.

Those are not the only new programs available to Crestline students and their parents. The board is supporting food service programs for breakfast in the school cafeteria. Sixty-seven percent of Crestline students qualify for free or reduced meals. The benefits of the program are to increase test scores and make less trips to the school nurse.

The PTO is sponsoring a wear facility where the school children may purchase clothes from the 10 racks in the designated facility.  The PTO has made $200 to $300 every time they open their doors from donated goods.
