Trash, rather trash rates, continued to be a topic of discussion at Monday’s regular meeting of the Crestline Village Council.
Although Village Council members did pass the first reading of legislation that would raise rates for residents from $20 to $22 per month, they also heard an opposing voice belonging to Dave Duncan.
Duncan called the situation concerning trash hauling permits in the village a monopoly and price fixing since all three permits are held by companies owned by the Kurtzman family.
The residential trash fee in Crestline has been $20 per month for the past 13 years. Council member Allen Laferty said other area towns average $22.50 for their residential rates.
The Crawford County Landfill raised its dumping fees which prompted the request for an increase.
