Fate’s Rewards has been working behind the scenes to bring art honoring veterans to Crestline. Fate’s Rewards, which is comprised of the artistic duo of Kay McNaul and Derek Kleinknecht, is a Mansfield company that puts photography and poetry together in a patriotic theme.
McNaul and Kleinknecht presented two patriotic pieces to the Crestline Village Council during its Monday night meeting. Ray Miller of Golden Hawk Transportation sponsored the donation of one piece while Marty Campbell of CTR Surplus and Tammy Moyer of Moyer’s Auto Wrecking sponsored the donation of the other display. The two pieces are titled “Because They Served” and “A Wounded Warrior.”
McNaul had contacted Mayor David Sharrock near the anniversary of the burial of Sharrock’s nephew in Arlington National Cemetery.
“I’m very proud to live in a community like Crestline,” said a choked up Sharrock. He was touched by the businesses that would reach out and honor the country’s veterans in this way.
McNaul said Fate’s Rewards strives to create something that would support the country’s military. “It’s a way of drawing the community into the piece, too,” said McNaul. She has been impressed with the businesses that are willing to step up to the cause. “That speaks deeply to the core of a community.”
Village Administrator Marc Milliron said the village has been conditionally accepted to receive an Ohio Department of Natural Resources Nature Works grant in the amount of $47,000. That, coupled with the $30,000 from the Bucyrus Area Community Foundation, pushes the village closer to having enough money for the new softball complex.
The Council voted to appointment Ryan Mahek to take over John Gledhill’s position on the Village Council. Gledhill had resigned at the last Council meeting.
Two pieces of legislation were passed as an emergency. Ordinance 3073 approved the editing and inclusion of certain ordinances as part of the various component codes of the Codified Ordinances.
Ordinance 3074 amended Ordinances 3055 and 3069 by transferring monies from the General Account to select accounts in the Street, Income Tax, Water Sewer, Swimming Pool, and Ambulance Funds. Law Director Harry Welsh said the State required the monies, which will be available to pay severance pay to retiring village employees, to be split into different accounts.
Council voted to set up a workshop training session for the four incoming council members. Councilman Mike Blaising said this will be the first time in a long time that the Council will have four new members. He felt it was in everyone’s interest to hold a seminar for the new members to teach them about the Village Council and the village. The session has been scheduled for 9:00 a.m. on Dec. 14.
The next Community Development Team meeting has been set for 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 3. There will be a Memory Tree Lighting Ceremony at 7:00 p.m. Dec. 5. The Santa Parade will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Dec. 15. A Harvest Festival meeting has been scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Jan. 9.
