CRESTLINE —A Crestline Police officer has been suspended for two days without pay and dismissed from the Crawford County Special Response Team after an incident that occurred on May 12 at Kelly Park.
According to a press release by Crestline Police Chief Jeff Shook on Monday, Officer Jason Kitzmiller was found to be in violation of his terms of employment with the police department as well as policies and procedures of the department after an investigation by the police department and the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office. Shook said the violations took place during an incident at Kelly Park on May 12 that Kitzmiller was involved in.
No other information was released by Shook but the police log from May 12 lists only one incident at Kelly Park when officers were called to the area in regards to a fight that was taking place. According to previous news reports, the incident occurred when Kitzmiller, who was off-duty at the time, and his wife, Kelsi, went to the park to confront juveniles who had been arguing with other children. One of the juveniles present at the scene captured a cell phone video of the incident in which Kitzmiller is seen confronting a juvenile and taunting him to “hit a cop” while his wife confronts the juvenile taking the video by coming at him aggressively.
According to Crawford County Municipal Court records, Jason Kitzmiller has been charged with disorderly conduct, a minor misdemeanor, and the case is still pending.
