CRESTLINE―Crestline Police are investigating an assault of an elderly man that took place on Wednesday.

According to a news release from Crestline Police Chief Jeff Shook, his department was notified by the Avita Ontario Hospital Emergency Department staff at around 5 p.m. on Aug. 7 that a 72-year-old man was being treated for injuries sustained from an assault.

Officers responded to the alleged location of the incident on East Main Street in Crestline and questioned several people at the residence regarding how the victim sustained his injuries. Officers also met with the victim at Ontario Hospital to gain more information.

A suspect was identified and as a result of the investigation, Allen R. Milligan II, 31, showing a last known address in Crestline, was arrested. Milligan was taken to Richland County Jail and is being held for court.

Due to the severity of his injuries, the victim was transferred to OSU Medical Center in Columbus and remains there as of Thursday afternoon.

The investigation is ongoing and no other information is being released at this time.
