Given Crestline’s history and tradition with the railroad, it should surprise no one that an old Crestliner has purchased a railroad of his very own.
Crestline native Bill Histed is part of a group of investors that has purchased the Stewartstown Railroad in York County, Pa. Histed owns the largest percent of stock in the railroad at 40 percent.
Histed’s father, Bill Histed Sr., worked for 43 years on the railroad in Crestline. The younger Histed is currently the publisher of the Mulberry Press in Mulberry, Fla.
The Stewartstown Railroad is currently a tourist attraction that runs between Stewartstown and New Freedom in Pennsylvania. Efforts are now underway to preserve the railroad and return it to operation and profitability.
