The Crestline School District is experiencing a period of exciting transition as they look to unveil their new building and they are welcoming new faces to the administrative ranks.
Lee Hurst was approved by the board Monday night as the new athletic director. Two new principals were introduced to the board as well.
Paul Wheeler will be the new high school principal after having relocated from Florida. He has been in education for 15 years and seven years as an administrator. Melissa Waters will be the new K-6 principal. She comes from Lexington, having been in education for 15 years as well. This will be her first stint as an administrator.
There was one outgoing face in what Superintendent Noreen Mullens said was, “a hard decision for her to retire.” Llibrarian Karen Gledhill’s retirement was accepted by the board.
A resolution with Avita Health Systems was tabled so the board may consider it further. The resolution would be for athletic trainer services for the upcoming school year. However, Avita has asked for an extensive range of advertising stipulations, including a great deal of free advertising and exclusivity. Among these would be ads at each quarter and halftime break of games, banners in the gym and signs at the football field, and the ability to distribute T-shirts at four games for the school year.
There will be an open house from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 20 to give the community a chance to view the new building. The school band will be playing and there are negotiations in place to have the volleyball game for that day switched from away to home to add the event. The next board meeting will be Aug. 26.
