Crestline Mayor Gloria McDonald resigned from her position in a letter dated May 18, according to the Crestline Advocate.
McDonald, citing health concerns, set her last day as May 31. According to the Advocate, issues related to the job caused McDonald’s blood pressure to rise and threatened her health. The recent hospitalization of Galion mayor Tom O’Leary helped McDonald to make her decision, she said.
McDonald was elected as an independent and took office in January of 2016.
Ohio law states that the village council’s president pro tempore, councilman Clayton Herold, becomes mayor until a successor is elected in the next municipal election. That person would fulfill the remainder of McDonald’s term, which runs through 2019.
More on the story, including McDonald’s letter to the community, can be found in this week’s edition of the Crestline Advocate.
