CRESTLINE, OH (CRAWFORD COUNTY NOW)—The Crestline Historical Society is set to launch a busy fall season with a series of special events, including a brand-new Pioneer Day and Appraisal Fair on October 11.

Society representative Julie Rossington announced that the special event will feature horse and wagon rides, old-fashioned kids’ games, and a lunch of hobo stew and dump cakes available by donation. A key attraction will be an Appraisal Fair hosted by Missy Stryker of Castle Auction, who will appraise up to two items for attendees for a small fee, with proceeds benefiting the museum. The Pioneer Day and Appraisal Fair runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The historical society is also holding its popular Third Sunday Event on October 19 at 3 p.m. Lance Beebe from the Norwalk area will present on historic ocean navigation, discussing how early sailors found their way and leading a hands-on workshop where attendees can build a functioning sextant from simple materials. This event is free to the public.

Looking ahead to November, Bill Fisher is scheduled to present on November 16 about the life of Gates Brown, a professional baseball player born and raised in Crestline who was discovered while playing for the Mansfield Reformatory team.

The society’s annual Memory Tree fundraiser will also run throughout November, allowing community members to purchase lights in honor or memory of a loved one for $10 each. The lights will be dedicated during a tree lighting ceremony at Village Hall on December 4 at 7 p.m., which the society hopes will be part of a larger uptown holiday event planned by the fire department and village.

The Crestline Historical Society, located in Crestline, Ohio, is open the first and third weekends of every month.
