The Crestline Board of Education went into executive session late on Thursday and when it returned board members unanimously approved the resignation of Lee Hurst.
Hurst has been at the school just one year as the district’s head football coach and athletics director. Hurst’s resignation will be effective June 30.
The motion passed by the board indicates terms of that resignation were mutually agreed to by Hurst and the district. No reason was given for the resignation, which was relayed to local media late Thursday following the meeting by school district Treasurer Bradd Stevens through an email.
Hurst’s one and only football team at Crestline was 1-9 in the 2013 season. That victory was over South Central when a blocked Crestline field goal was recovered by the holder who then threw a game-winning touchdown pass.
The football team is scheduled to open the 2014 at a new facility located on the grounds of the current high school campus.
Hurst had been a proponent of Crestline finding or helping create a league of smaller schools in which to join. In its storied history, the school was once a member of the League of Six Nations, a founding member of the Northern Ohio League, a member of the now-defunct Johnny Appleseed Conference, and currently the North Central Conference which is in its final days.
The district slated to be a member of the new Northern 10 Athletic Conference which will also include Buckeye Central, Bucyrus, Carey, Colonel Crawford, Mohawk, Ridgedale, Seneca East, Upper Sandusky and Wynford.
