Newly-appointed mayor Clayton Herold led his first Crestline Village Council meeting Monday night.

Councilman Allen Moore was elected council president pro-tem, filling the vacancy left by Herold, who is serving the remainder of Gloria McDonald four-year term. Herold’s position on the Crestline Planning Commission will be filled at a later date.

McDonald resigned effective May 31 citing health concerns.

Herold also took aim at the vacant fire chief position. According to the Crestline Advocate, Herold informed the Police and Fire Committee that he would like to hire a fire chief within the month. He is planning on meeting with other fire chiefs to get their input, including Galion Fire Chief Phil Jackson.

The fire chief position has been vacant for several months after former chief Mike Weisman retired in 2016.
